To issue an Apple Wallet pass, a merchant signs a .pkpass file with their brand colors, reward copy, and a QR code; the customer adds it with one tap and it updates automatically after every scan, no login required. Google Wallet works the same way through a Loyalty Object that updates live on the customer's phone.
